“…by casting them directly. Her long table of these castings ( Acquiring Nature) is a sumptuous display of piles and distributions of cast sea urchins, thorns, twigs, seal vertebrae, shards of bark, seed pods and other outcroppings of sculpturally interesting shapes that, 100 years ago, would have found their way into any civilized Victorian’s Cabinet of Wonders. Here, they are offered as commodities — or, rather, as allusions to commodification, since it is presumably O’Callaghan’s point that we all have to make important decisions about what we want from nature, and why.”
